Recent breakthroughs in tech mean DNA can now be extracted from bilby poop to teach us about the genetic diversity of wild bilbies.
It could hold the missing pieces of the puzzle
For a population to adapt to challenges like disease, predators, or changing environmental conditions, it needs to be genetically diverse. Is the wild bilby genetically diverse? Or do we need to use some of our protected population to increase diversity?
Until now, we’ve been flying blind.
These are the critical questions that we’re hoping to find the answers to, through an upcoming research project.
