Let’s go on a journey back 90 years or so, to 1935.
We’re heading to Hobart Zoo, and you should be prepared to see something thrilling but also completely heartbreaking 💔
Standing before you is the last ever Thylacine (or Tasmanian tiger as you may know it). With the sharp teeth of a dog, beautiful tiger-like stripes and a pouch for its young, it’s an incredible creature—unique to Australia. And it’s about to disappear forever.
1935 was the Tasmanian tiger’s last Christmas. Today, it exists only as rock art paintings, photos, bones and a few grainy clips of film. We’re determined not to let the Greater Bilby go the same way as the Tasmanian tiger, but we can’t do it without you. Right now, our bilby-loving community is a big part of what’s preventing the bilby from disappearing forever.
When you donate this Christmas, you show your commitment to conservation, pride in our unique Australian fauna, and a love of preserving what can never be replaced.
Bilbies and their ancient relatives have bound across this land for more than 20 million years. They used to be found across 70% of the mainland, but in virtually the blink of an eye, everything changed.
They now face the real threat of extinction.
With two weeks to go, we’re $38,035 short of our $103,000 target. So please send your gift now to grant the bilbies’ simple Christmas wish—survival.

Caring bilby-lovers have already helped build the 28 km2 predator exclusion fence at Currawinya National Park. You’ve enabled Kev and the team to install cameras to monitor and support bilby populations, and we’re now working to get a full DNA profile of bilbies in the wild and in safe havens 🧬
Understanding the genetic diversity of both wild and managed populations will help us to better protect the Greater Bilby from extinction. It will highlight where populations will need additional measures to increase genetic vigour to help safeguard them against extinction risks such as disease and environmental change.
These are among the factors that led to the heart-breaking extinction of the Tasmanian tiger. So please send your gift now to help the bilby see many more Christmases to come.
P.S. After you’ve donated, you can vote on which delicious treat our furry marsupial friends get this Christmas: juicy mealworms, crispy locusts or sweet potatoes! 🪱 🦗 🍠
