Can you believe our last ‘Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies’ Giving Day was one year ago?! 🤯
Time flies when you love bilbies, doesn’t it?😁
On Thursday 27th March 2025 from 9am AEST Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies is BACK!
That’s right – mark your diary – because tomorrow, any gift you make will be DOUBLED, thanks to some wonderful Big Digger friends of Save the Bilby Fund who have kindly agreed to match your donations.
Your bilby-saving contributions will make TWICE as much impact for 25 hours only! – CLICK HERE
As our operational costs continue to skyrocket in the cost-of-living crisis, I do hope I can rely on your incredible generosity once again next week, as we prepare for another exciting Giving Day event.
Our Giving Days really are something special. There is a kind of magic in the air at this time of the year, as our whole community comes together, united in our fight to save our beloved Greater Bilby from the brink.
Each year, your kindness fills my heart, and your generosity blows me away. What our supporters will do to help our furry, big-eared marsupial friends is truly awe-inspiring.
Take Maxwell, for example…
Maxwell lives in south-east Brisbane and, like so many of our wonderful donors, has supported Save the Bilby Fund for many years.
Max’s dedication to protecting our furry burrowing friends runs deep – especially during our past Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies Giving Days.
That’s because Maxwell makes a 17-hour (!!!) overnight train journey from Brisbane to hand-deliver his cheque donation at the Charleville Bilby Experience!

It’s one heck of a journey, so let me help map it out for you…
🚂 Max leaves Roma Street Station in Brisbane the night before the Giving Day. The Westlander train sets off at 19:15, travelling 777km westbound through the Queensland outback.
🚂 After 16.5 hours on the train, Max is rested, ready to go, and always brimming with excitement to drop off his cheque to our friendly team at the CBE!
🚂 The funds Max donates come from collecting recyclable drink containers for the Containers for Change initiative. When he returns the items to a depot, he’s given the choice of a refund or a charity donation – and thankfully for us, Max chooses to support Save The Bilby Fund for all his hard recycling work! 💚 ♻️
🚂 Last year, Max donated $1,007, and the year before that, $1,030!
🚂 Let’s not forget that after going to all this effort to donate, Max still has a 17-hour journey home later that day. Incredible!
“Getting off the train and handing over my donation to the team at Save the Bilby Fund on the day of their Giving Day is one of the highlights of my year. The smiles and the gratitude up close – I just know they appreciate every cent.”
Max is 100% right. We’re a small (but mighty!) team, so every dollar is stretched as far as it can possibly go when it comes to saving our precious bilby.
Max is proof that not all heroes wear capes. Some come armed with a bag full of bottles and a bilby-bound cheque instead 🦸
Our bilby-saving expenses are projected to significantly increase this year, due to the cost-of-living crisis and the need for more human specialists to help with the on-the-ground work. Saving the bilby is within reach, but we can’t do it without you.
Thursday, 9 am. You, me and the bilbies.
Let’s do this 💪
