Charleville Bilby Experience Recognised in the 2026 Best of Queensland Experiences Program

We’re incredibly proud to share that the Charleville Bilby Experience has been recognised in the 2026 Best of Queensland Experiences Program — a wonderful achievement that shines a spotlight on both the visitor experience and the important conservation work happening behind the scenes every single day.

For everyone involved in protecting bilbies, this recognition means so much more than an award. It celebrates the power of conservation, education and connection — bringing people face-to-face with one of Australia’s most endangered native animals and inspiring them to help protect their future.

Operated in partnership with Murweh Shire Council, the Charleville Bilby Experience gives visitors the rare opportunity to step inside the nocturnal house and meet these remarkable little animals up close. For many guests, it’s the first time they’ve ever seen a bilby in real life, and it’s an experience they never forget.

Every visit helps tell the story of the bilby — a species once found across 70% of Australia, now fighting for survival due to habitat loss and introduced predators such as foxes and feral cats.

At Save the Bilby Fund, we work tirelessly to help secure a future for bilbies through our predator-proof fenced sanctuary, breeding and conservation programs, education initiatives and awareness campaigns. The Charleville Bilby Experience plays a vital role in that mission by connecting people directly to the animals and the conservation work that protects them.

When visitors walk through the experience, they don’t just observe bilbies — they learn about the real challenges these animals face and how every person can help make a difference.

The recognition in the Best of Queensland Experiences Program also reflects the dedication and passion of the incredible staff, volunteers and supporters who work so hard to create meaningful, memorable experiences for every guest who walks through the doors.

And of course, no visit is complete without stopping by our fantastic gift shop. Filled with bilby-themed gifts, souvenirs, educational items, and conservation merchandise, the shop allows visitors to take home a special reminder of their experience while continuing to support bilby conservation efforts.

While you’re in town, you can also experience two other award-winning attractions recognised in the 2026 Best of Queensland Experiences Program. The WWII Secret Base received Gold for Best Attraction and Silver for its Tag-A-Long Tour, celebrating Charleville’s fascinating hidden wartime history. Meanwhile, the Charleville Cosmos Centre earned Silver for both Tours and Attractions, continuing to amaze visitors with unforgettable stargazing experiences beneath some of Australia’s darkest skies.
